I’ve always been fascinated with textiles and fabric dying – especially the process which I mentioned in my earlier post on the textile show that’s currently up at The Sacred Door in Venice. A couple Sunday nights ago, I ended up taking the Shibori Workshop at the community/gallery space taught by Anton Nazarko who works with Raquel Allegra. I had no idea what to expect – Was it going to be hard? Was I going to super suck at indigo dyeing? Would I have smurf hands when I was done? It was actually much simpler than I had anticipated. Last Sunday I went to The Sacred Door on Lincoln Blvd. in Venice to check out their new Textile show that just opened on March 2nd. A fairly new gallery + event space, The Sacred Door opened up a few months ago by jewelry designer Carly Margolis in the front of her art studio to act as a community gallery for all things “sacred.”
Lately I’ve been digging UK based fashion photographer Charlotte Rutherford‘s work. Sweet but many times unexpected, her style is signature – there’s just something about the way she’s able capture youth (in a way that sort of transcends time, trends and stereotypes) oh so perfectly.
Love the simplicity + repetitive nature of LA-based photographer Maison Gray‘s fluorescent light series.
I love french conceptual artist Daniel Buren‘s minimal and abstract approach to his work. Bold and repetitive, his ability to integrate the visual and architectural spaces is out of this world. Stripes upon stripes upon stripes. Heavenly <3
