Deus Ex Machina Venice

Deus Ex Machina Venice

I’ve been living in Venice for a little over a year now, and no matter how many times I hear “you have to move to the eastside!” there’s just something about this neighborhood that keeps me here. The ocean breeze is pretty high up on my ongoing “pros and cons” list and also places like Deus Ex Machina. The Australian based lifestyle brand opened up shop earlier this year (in what formerly was a flower shop) and is such a perfect mix of everything a modern, slightly hipster beachside dweller could ever want. Dubbed “The Emporium of Post Modern Activities” the space houses everything from surfboards, motorcycles, play/workwear for men and women, accessories, books and my favorite – a coffee shop.

The boy wasn’t ever a huge fan of coffee but ever since we started stopping by Deus for flat whites (which apparently are all the rage these days), he’s turned a new leaf! Their chocolate croissant is also a must try. Aside from coffee, I absolutely love the creative decor – the use of natural wood throughout the store and especially the inspirational/random quotes they put up on their marquee (I’ll have to remember to snap a shot next time I see a clever one up!).

Anyway, what’s really cool about Deus Ex Machina is that each of their locations seems to be tailor-made for the community it resides in, really reflecting neighborhood culture. Some have a big focus on cycling, others serve breakfast/lunch, and best of all they each have cool names like “House of Simple Pleasures” and “Temple of Enthusiasm.”  If this is what Aussie culture is all about, sign me up!
